EnspireME (downstream)
Located in Jardelund, in the district of Schleswig-Flensburg, in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany, EnspireME is one of the largest operational battery energy storage systems in Europe at 48MW. The project is a Joint Venture between Diamond Generating Europe and Eneco and was supported by Wirtschaftsförderung und Technologietransfer Schleswig-Holstein GmbH (WTSH) , Norddeutsche EnergieWende (NEW 4.0) foundation, SINTEG Smart Energy Showcases and the Landesprogramm Wirtschaft.
The battery provides ancillary services to the grid by qualifying under the Präqualifikationsverfahren für Regelreserveanbieter (FCR) 2018 and participating in the primary reserve capacity auction to support the local Tennet grid network. The battery is particularly suited for an area with high installed capacity of onshore wind generation on the border with Denmark. This supports the grid by quickly responding to deviations in grid frequency. In addition to ancillary services, the battery potentially will also provide reactive power services as part of Norddeutsche EnergieWende (NEW 4.0) program.
